Embroidery thread usually comes with six twisted strands. For most
stitches you only need to work with two so you will need to separate
these from the rest.
1. Cut a length of embroidery thread from the skein roughly twice the length of your forearm.
2. Separate out two strands and hold them between the thumb and forefinger on your left hand.
3. Still holding the two you want between your thumb and forefinger, use the other fingers on your left hand to gently start pulling the two groups of strands apart.
4. With your other hand gently separate out the strands by running your thumb down the thread, making sure you continue to hold the two groups tightly with your left hand.
5. Now you have a length of embroidery thread with two strands, ready to sew.
